Hellboy and BPRD

Hellboy is one of the best comics I've ever read.  Mike Mignola has taken a relatively simple character (with an equally ridiculous name), and turned him into a complex, ass-kicking everyman.  Hellboy is me.  He's you.  He's the normal guy surrounded by abnormal things, like talking robot apes, floating heads in jars, giant caterpillar things, ghouls, Nazis, and mythical figures.  Mignola has taken all the things that he loves (horror, mythology, Jack Kirby, Lovecraft, etc.), and put them into one creation.  That, I think, is what all creators should aspire to.  We should take the best of what we love, incorporate it into the stories we want to tell, and make it our own.  That's what Mike Mignola did, and it worked out pretty well for him.   Plus, his artwork is outstanding.  And I can't emphasize that enough.  It is absolutely gorgeous.

Well, enough rambling from me.  Enjoy!

Reign of The Supermen

As cheesy as the story-line was, "The Death and Return of Superman" was a lot of fun.  And some enduring characters rose from its ashes.  It was the beginning of Hal Jordan's fall from grace.  The debut of Steel, Superboy, and the Cyborg Superman, and one of the most embarrassing haircuts in comic book history.  That's right, Superman's Super- Mullet (which I've decided to omit from ANY Superman I might draw).  All in all, it was an important time in my life as far as comics are concerned.  This was when I started getting an idea that making these thing was how I wanted to spend the rest of my life.

Dwight McCarthy

Sin City was one of those series I always liked, but only got around to reading a couple stories of.  I hope some day to remedy that.

The Fourth World

Jack Kirby truly was the King.  He kept comics fun, but cool.  From Marvel with The Fantastic Four, the Uncanny X-Men, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America and the Avengers; to DC with New Gods, Mister Miracle, The Forever People, Kamandi, and the Demon!  He was one of the most prolific creators of the 60's and 70's.  Anyways, this piece is definitely inspired by him, and, like his own work, was very fun!

ps.  Here are the pencils for you process junkies!

#251 Homage

My little tribute to the cover of Batman #251 by Neal Adams.  That cover is one of a few influences on me making a living in comic books.  Good stuff.

SPECTRE

JOIN IT!  This blog does not tolerate failure!

The Punisher

What a crazy mofo!

Kirk and Spock

Oh snap!

Wolverine

some quick colors
One of the coolest, and unfortunately most over-used characters in comics.  And when it comes to costumes... brown and yellow all the way, baby!

The Mechanical Knight

Here's another peek at "Endless West".

Rufus

A promo for a sci-fi western I'm working on called "Endless West".

"Stay tuned, more to come." - Scott Hall aka Razor Ramon

Lucy

Bram Stoker's Dracula is one of the best looking movies, EVAH!  Mike Mignola's comic adaptation is also pretty damn sweet.  If you've never seen either, shame.  Shame... TWO times!

Waterworld

so much potential...

Captain James T. Kirk...

of the starship... Enterprise.

Smile

How many windows do you think Batman has destroyed?  I've only broken a couple myself, but then again, I'm not stopping villains from perpetrating deadly crimes, am I?   AM I!?  No.  I am not.

RoboCop versus Predator

My dream job.  With a little Mignola twist.... wink!

The Master Of Magnetism

Seriously one of my favorite characters.

The Incredible Hulk

I love Hulk.

Duel

Inspired by Kurosawa and Mifune

Dutch

Predator, once again, is the manliest movie ever made.
